Dolton Mayor Henyard Faces Scrutiny Over Spending

Dolton, Illinois Mayor Tiffany Henyard is facing intense scrutiny after spending $85,000 of taxpayer money on a poorly attended party, amid an investigation into her excessive spending habits. The event featured performances by R&B singer Keke Wyatt and rapper J. Holiday, costing $50,000 for one hour of entertainment, and additional expenses for bounce houses, staff, and equipment. A Freedom of Information Act request revealed only about 70 people attended, leading to criticism from residents and former trustees. Henyard's financial decisions have led to a $3.6 million deficit in the town's budget, down from a $5.6 million surplus. Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been hired to investigate Henyard’s spending, and the Illinois State Comptroller has cut off her access to state funds.
