Canadian Film Nina Roza Leads Locarno Pro Awards Across Europe

At the 2025 Locarno Pro Awards, Canadian filmmaker Geneviève Dulude-De Celles' feature "Nina Roza" was a standout winner, receiving both the Urban Post First Look Award for post-production services and the Jannuzzi Smith Award for international poster design. The film, produced by Colonelle Films with co-producers from Italy, Belgium, and Bulgaria, tells the story of an 8-year-old Bulgarian art prodigy and an art collector confronting his past, praised for its integration of music, art, and themes of identity, exile, and home. Bryce Hodgson's queer love fantasy "Thanks To The Hard Work Of The Elephants" won the Music Library & SFX/Acorde Award for music supervision services. Nick Butler's "Lunar Sway" earned both the Cineground Award for image finishing and Le Film Français Award for advertising space. Additionally, the Locarno Heritage Restoration Contest honored Safi Faye's 1975 film "Letter From My Village" with a full restoration to be showcased at Locarno 2026. The event also introduced new awards in the Alliance 4 Development co-development program, recognizing projects from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.
