Vodafone Idea Expands IP Backhaul Network with Nokia Agreement

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) has partnered with Nokia to enhance its IP backhaul network over a three-year agreement, aiming to support the increasing data demands from emerging services such as AI, immersive gaming, and video conferencing. Nokia will deploy its IP/MPLS solutions, including the 7750 SR and 7250 IXR series routers, to modernize VIL's transport network, enabling lower operational costs and improved scalability for future technologies. This upgrade is part of a broader strategy to densify VIL's network and replace legacy systems, ensuring efficient and reliable connectivity. Additionally, Nokia has completed the delivery of essential 5G equipment to facilitate VIL's upcoming 5G launch in major cities, beginning in Mumbai and followed by Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, and Patna. The partnership is set to address the growing demand for high-capacity networks while enhancing sustainability through energy-efficient solutions. Vodafone Idea's CTO highlighted the significant improvement in customer experience due to this rapid expansion of both 4G and 5G networks.
