Indian Railways Allocates 76% of FY25 Budget

As of January 5, 2025, Indian Railways has spent 76% of its budgetary allocation for the fiscal year 2024-25, amounting to over $22 billion, primarily on capacity expansion and safety enhancements. The government is focused on achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 through increased electrification and the introduction of new lines. Significant investments have resulted in the commissioning of 136 Vande Bharat trains and the electrification of approximately 97% of broad gauge lines. The railway aims to provide faster and safer travel for an average of 23 million daily passengers while modernizing its infrastructure. Upcoming Vande Bharat sleeper trains are expected to enhance long-distance travel experiences. Despite challenges from competition with road and air transport, the commitment to modernization continues under the vision of 'Viksit Bharat.'
