Two Ugandan Men Detained for Insulting President

Two Ugandan TikTok users, David Ssengozi (21) and Isaiah Ssekagiri (28), have been remanded to Kigo prison for allegedly insulting President Yoweri Museveni and his family on the platform. They are facing charges of hate speech and spreading malicious information, which they both denied in court. Alongside a third individual, Julius Tayebwa (19), who is similarly charged, the group is accused of posting content intended to demean the first family. Police spokesman Rusoke Kituuma previously warned that disrespecting the president is a punishable offense. The specific TikTok post that triggered the arrests remains unclear, but it is believed to involve explicit language directed at the Museveni family. This incident has drawn criticism towards the Ugandan government for restricting freedom of expression in the country.
