Shawn Clark, the offensive line coach at UCF and former head coach at Appalachian State, was hospitalized after a medical emergency but is currently in stable condition and receiving appropriate care. Clark, who joined UCF's coaching staff in January 2025 with head coach Scott Frost, has a strong coaching background, including a 40-24 record as Appalachian State's head coach from 2020 to 2024. UCF has expressed full support for Clark and his family during this time, with updates to be provided as appropriate. Clark's leadership has been praised by players and Frost, noting improvements in the offensive line's performance. UCF is off to a 2-0 start this season and will return to play against North Carolina on September 20. Clark's extensive coaching career includes previous assistant roles at Louisville, Eastern Kentucky, Purdue, and Kent State, as well as a notable playing career as an offensive lineman at Appalachian State.
