Inquiry Reveals Broader Scope of Letby's Crimes

A public inquiry has revealed that British nurse Lucy Letby, already convicted of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder six others, may have harmed more children than previously known. Neonatal clinical lead Dr. Stephen Brearey testified that incidents of unexpected collapses and deaths before June 2015, when Letby was convicted of her first known murder, now appear suspicious. Although he and his colleagues initially thought they were experiencing a particularly busy period, they now believe her actions likely predated her known crimes. Dr. Brearey, who raised suspicions about Letby, recalled his initial disbelief when he learned she was present at multiple deaths, noting, 'Oh no, not Lucy. Not nice Lucy.' The ongoing investigation by Cheshire police is examining 4,000 babies she cared for throughout her career. The inquiry aims to understand the extent of Letby's actions and why they went undetected for so long.
