Hong Kong Marks 5th Anniversary of National Security Law with Exhibition
Hong Kong has launched a thematic exhibition at the Hong Kong Museum of History to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the enactment of the Hong Kong National Security Law, highlighting the restoration of social stability and national security since its implementation in 2020. The exhibition features a "time tunnel" with images and footage from major protests and unrest, including the 2014 Occupy Central movement, 2016 Mong Kok riots, and 2019 anti-government protests, illustrating the transition from chaos to order and prosperity. Officials emphasized that safeguarding national security remains crucial amid ongoing threats from external hostile forces, local terrorism, and movements promoting independence, with over 326 arrests and 165 convictions under the law to date. Secretary for Security Chris Tang and Secretary for Justice Paul Lam stressed the importance of public vigilance and participation in protecting national security, warning against foreign interference and smearing campaigns. The exhibition aims to deepen public understanding of the law's necessity and its role in protecting citizens' rights and freedoms while supporting Hong Kong's high-quality development. The event underscores the principle of "One Country, Two Systems" with national security as its foundation and calls for continued collective efforts to uphold Hong Kong's stability and prosperity.
