U.S. Girls Plans New Album 'Scratch It' for June 2025
Toronto-based artist Meg Remy, known as U.S. Girls, has announced her new album 'Scratch It,' set for release on June 20 via 4AD and Royal Mountain Records. The album marks a departure from her previous electronic pop, embracing a more organic sound by recording live to tape with a Nashville-based band, and weaving together styles like country, gospel, garage rock, and soul. The lead single, 'Bookends,' is a 12-minute ballad co-written with Edwin de Goeji and serves as a tribute to the late Power Trip frontman Riley Gale, drawing lyrical inspiration from the historical text 'Eyewitness To History.' Accompanied by a Caity Arthur-directed video, 'Bookends' reflects on themes of death and transformation, challenging the traditional narrative by portraying death as a euphoric new beginning. The new band features notable musicians, including Charlie McCoy and Jack Lawrence, and will join Remy on a North American tour in support of the album. 'Scratch It' follows her 2023 release 'Bless This Mess' and represents an adventurous sonic and conceptual evolution for U.S. Girls.
