Girls' flag football has been officially sanctioned as a high school sport in Pennsylvania, with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) approving it to start in the 2025-26 school year. This decision follows significant growth in the sport, with a 105% increase in participation since 2022, driven by initiatives from the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers, who collectively helped form over 100 teams across the state. The PIAA's sanctioning will enable statewide interscholastic competition and pave the way for state championships. The USA TODAY Sports Network has also launched its inaugural Super 25 high school rankings for girls' flag football, reflecting the sport's rising prominence, with Pennsylvania's Mountain View ranked No. 1. The PIAA will begin developing a girls' flag football rule book in January 2025 in collaboration with the National Federation of State High School Associations.
