Toddler Hospitalized After Accidental Shooting in Miami Gardens

A two-year-old boy was hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself in the leg with a gun he found in his mother's purse at a Miami Gardens apartment complex early Wednesday morning around 1:30 a.m., near NW 210th Street and 22nd Avenue. Police responded to a single gunshot and a woman's screams, finding the boy in a blood-stained white car in the parking lot. The child was transported to Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital in stable, non-life-threatening condition. Neighbors expressed shock and heartbreak, and authorities stressed the importance of safely storing firearms away from children. Child protective services have been notified as part of the ongoing investigation. It is not yet clear if the mother will face any charges.
