Delhi Court Delays Engineer Rashid Bail Ruling

A Delhi court has postponed its decision on the bail plea of Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid to September 11, 2024, while he remains in Tihar Jail due to a 2017 terror funding case. Rashid, who won the Baramulla parliamentary seat while incarcerated, is accused of links to terror financing involving prominent figures like Yasin Malik and Hafiz Saeed, with charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is investigating the case, which alleges the funneling of money to support terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The court had previously granted Rashid a short custodial parole to take his oath of office after his election victory. Arguments on his bail application were heard in-camera by Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh, who reserved the order after a notice was issued to the NIA. Rashid has been in custody since 2019 and was arrested as part of broader investigations into terror financing in the region.
