Chile Advances Lithium Contracts Across Three Salt Flats

Chile's government is advancing a simplified process to award lithium mining contracts across three major salt flats—Agua Amarga, Ascotan, and Coipasa—as part of President Gabriel Boric's plan to increase state control and expand lithium production. Applications have been received from companies including Eramet, Quiborax, and state-owned Codelco, with contracts to be signed following indigenous consultations and fulfillment of permit requirements. If agreements are not reached, the government will move to public bidding for the projects.
