The Social Reckoning announced for October 2026 release
Sony Pictures has confirmed the sequel to the acclaimed 2010 film The Social Network, titled The Social Reckoning, set for release on October 9, 2026. Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, who also penned the original, the film explores events following Facebook's founding, focusing on whistleblower Frances Haugen and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, who exposed internal Facebook documents in the 2021 Facebook Files. Jeremy Strong will portray Mark Zuckerberg, replacing Jesse Eisenberg, with Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White playing Haugen and Horwitz, respectively. The movie delves into Facebook's role in spreading misinformation, harms to teens, and political violence, emphasizing issues of corporate accountability and ethical tensions within the company. David Fincher, who directed the original, is not involved in this project, but Sorkin returns as a writer, director, and producer alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser. Production is slated to begin soon, with the film positioned as a companion piece rather than a retelling of the original origin story.
