Meta Pledges Hundreds Billions for AI Superintelligence Data Centers

Meta Platforms, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, is committing hundreds of billions of dollars to build massive AI data centers as part of its aggressive push toward artificial superintelligence (ASI). The company plans to launch multiple multi-gigawatt data center clusters, including Prometheus in 2026 and Hyperion, which will scale up to 5 gigawatts, making them some of the largest AI facilities globally. This investment is supported by Meta's strong advertising revenue and aims to secure a leading position in AI development amid intense competition for top talent, with offers exceeding $100 million to recruit key researchers. Meta recently established Superintelligence Labs, headed by Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman, to unify its AI efforts and drive new revenue streams through innovations like AI-powered apps and smart glasses. The company also invested $14.3 billion in the startup Scale AI, further strengthening its AI capabilities. Meta's stock has responded positively to this strategy, reflecting investor confidence despite concerns over the scale of the capital expenditure.
