Rafael Louzan Elected RFEF President Amid Controversy

Rafael Louzan has been elected as the new president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), succeeding Pedro Rocha, who was suspended for exceeding his authority. Louzan garnered 90 votes from RFEF's General Assembly, defeating rival Salvador Gomar, who received 43 votes. His election comes amidst ongoing turmoil following the resignation of former president Luis Rubiales, who is facing trial for sexual assault related to an unsolicited kiss on player Jenni Hermoso. Despite his victory, Louzan is under scrutiny himself, having been previously condemned for malfeasance and awaiting a court ruling that could bar him from office for seven years. The RFEF, which is under pressure after the Rubiales scandal, is also preparing to host matches for the 2030 World Cup alongside Morocco and Portugal. Louzan's presidency, while supported by many, remains precarious until the outcome of his appeal is determined in February.
