Aurora Police Officer Fatally Shoots Armed Man After Traffic Stop
A 37-year-old man, Rajon Montrel Lee Belt-Stubblefield, was shot and killed by an Aurora police officer after a high-speed traffic stop attempt escalated into a confrontation. Belt-Stubblefield crashed into two vehicles while fleeing, ignored police commands, and was armed, having tossed a handgun on the ground before approaching the officer aggressively. The officer fired shots as Belt-Stubblefield advanced, resulting in his death at the scene. Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain emphasized the incident was not routine and highlighted the availability of multiple video recordings, including body camera footage, to provide a clear understanding of the event. The officer involved was placed on administrative leave, and the shooting is under investigation by the 18th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team. Meanwhile, the Aurora community held a vigil for Belt-Stubblefield, reflecting the incident's impact on local residents.
