Waisea Nayacalevu joins Ospreys as injury cover
Fiji captain Waisea Nayacalevu has signed a short-term deal with the Ospreys as injury cover for Owen Watkin, who will miss the remainder of the season due to a serious knee injury. Nayacalevu, 34, previously played for Sale Sharks and has an extensive career in rugby, including a decade at Stade Francais where he scored 82 tries in 200 appearances. Known for his destructive playing style, he captained Fiji to significant victories, including their first win over England and a strong showing at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Ospreys head coach Mark Jones expressed excitement about Nayacalevu's arrival, noting his experience and leadership qualities will greatly benefit the team. The Ospreys are currently positioned 13th in the United Rugby Championship but remain hopeful for playoff contention. Nayacalevu emphasized his eagerness to contribute to the squad and play alongside world-class talent during this phase of his career.
