BBC Staff Embark on 1,000-Mile Swim Challenge

BBC Radio presenters and staff from across the UK are participating in the Thousand Mile Challenge, a new swimming initiative for BBC Children in Need. This event, taking place from November 4-8, involves each BBC local radio station swimming 24 miles to collectively reach a 1,000-mile target. Notable participants include teams from BBC Radio Berkshire, Oxford, Cornwall, and London, with support from former Olympians Rebecca Adlington and Mark Foster. The challenge aims to raise funds for disadvantaged children in the UK, as the charity can currently support only 1 in 8 organizations seeking help. Training for the event has been a transformative experience for many participants, encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones. The effort has garnered support from listeners and communities, and the BBC has raised over £1bn for Children in Need since its first major appeal in 1980.
