London Underground Expands 4G, 5G Coverage on Northern, Victoria, Piccadilly Lines
Transport for London (TfL) and Boldyn Networks have expanded 4G and 5G mobile coverage across more sections of the London Underground, including the Northern, Victoria, and Piccadilly lines. Key areas now covered include the tunnelled section of the Northern line between Balham and South Wimbledon, stations such as Kennington, Oval, Tooting Broadway, and South Wimbledon, as well as the Victoria line between Vauxhall and Pimlico. Continuous coverage has been achieved for South London passengers travelling from South Wimbledon to Stockwell on the Northern line, with work ongoing to extend coverage to Morden and Kennington tunnels by summer 2025. The Bank branch of the Northern line between Euston and Bank is receiving mobile coverage for the first time. In the coming months, rollout will begin on the Jubilee line starting at Swiss Cottage and progress to link with existing coverage at Westminster, alongside coverage expansions for major interchange stations like Green Park and King’s Cross St Pancras. All four major UK mobile network operators are participating in the rollout, which is part of the Mayor and TfL’s commitment to provide mobile connectivity throughout London’s transport network, though the original 2024 completion target has been delayed to at least 2026 due to additional assurance work.
