Gas fire evacuations in Labrador
Residents of Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, are returning home after a massive wildfire prompted the evacuation of nearly 10,000 people on July 12. The evacuation order was lifted on Monday, allowing essential workers and residents to return, despite the wildfire still burning over 13,000 hectares. Meanwhile, in Williams Lake, British Columbia, a fast-moving wildfire led to tactical evacuations over the weekend; however, residents have also been allowed to return home, though they remain under an evacuation alert. The Williams Lake fire, sparked by a fallen tree on power lines, has contributed to a surge of over 320 wildfires across the province. Both communities expressed relief as firefighting efforts have managed to control the fire situations. Officials in both regions emphasized the importance of being prepared for potential re-evacuations if conditions change.
