NIPL and Magnati to Expand UPI in UAE

NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) has partnered with Magnati, a prominent payment solutions provider in the Middle East, to expand Unified Payments Interface (UPI) acceptance across the UAE, initially focusing on Dubai Duty Free. This collaboration aims to introduce UPI-enabled QR code payments at Magnati’s point-of-sale terminals, enhancing convenience for Indian travelers in the UAE, a popular destination for over 12 million Indian visitors annually. The partnership plans to extend UPI payment options to sectors such as retail, hospitality, transportation, and supermarkets, thereby expanding the network of merchants accepting UPI payments and integrating Indian digital payment solutions into the UAE's ecosystem. UPI, recognized for its efficiency, processed 16 billion transactions in December 2024 alone, and is currently accepted in seven countries, including Bhutan and Singapore. NIPL's initiative reflects a strategic step toward boosting digital payments and facilitating cross-border transactions, further emphasizing its commitment to a globally connected payments ecosystem. This partnership will also support UAE merchants in better serving the growing Indian tourist base, providing a seamless and familiar payment method for Indian travelers.
