Second Mpox Case Confirmed in India
India has confirmed its second case of Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox), with a 38-year-old man from Kerala testing positive after returning from Dubai. He initially isolated himself upon showing symptoms but was later hospitalized due to worsening conditions, including rashes and fever. Kerala's health minister assured the public that this case is isolated and not linked to the ongoing public health emergency declared by the WHO, which concerns clade 1 of the virus prevalent in parts of Africa. The first case in India was reported last week in Delhi involving a 26-year-old man from Hisar. Health authorities are awaiting test results from the suspected case and have implemented monitoring measures in light of recent outbreaks, including Nipah virus in the region. The WHO has classified Mpox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, emphasizing the need for vigilance and public awareness.
