Eaton Fire Near Pasadena Claims Two Lives

The Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County, which ignited on January 7, has resulted in two fatalities and extensive evacuations across the region, affecting over 30 square miles and threatening 28,000 structures. The fire, exacerbated by strong Santa Ana winds, has consumed approximately 2,227 acres and destroyed more than 100 buildings, including the Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center. Emergency services have conducted dramatic evacuations, notably from a senior center in Pasadena, where about 100 residents were rescued as flames approached. In addition to the tragic loss of life, there have been reports of looting in evacuated areas, leading to arrests. The fire is one of several currently impacting the region, with another significant blaze in Pacific Palisades. As firefighting efforts continue, critical wind conditions persist, complicating the response.
