Costume Designer Paul Tazewell Talks Wicked Film

Costume designer Paul Tazewell is at the forefront of creating the stunning visuals for the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked, which reimagines the beloved story from The Wizard of Oz. Drawing inspiration from nature, particularly fungi and kaleidoscopic patterns, Tazewell aims to incorporate a sense of inclusivity within the film's school setting, Shiz University, by using diverse representations in the costumes, including gender-inclusive designs like kilts. With Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande leading the ensemble cast, the film explores the complex friendship between Elphaba and Glinda, set to premiere on November 22, 2024. Tazewell emphasizes the importance of costumes as a storytelling mechanism and acknowledges the challenge of balancing homage to the original film while crafting a fresh vision. Directed by Jon M.
