Gunnar Hoglund Undergoes Hip Surgery, Out for 2025

Oakland Athletics right-hander Gunnar Hoglund, 25, underwent season-ending hip surgery performed by Dr. Marc Phillipon in Colorado after being placed on the 15-day injured list in early June due to a left hip impingement. Hoglund made his MLB debut in May 2025, starting six games and posting a 1-3 record with a 6.40 ERA, with his performance affected by a difficult final outing against Toronto. Originally drafted 19th overall by the Blue Jays in 2021, he was traded to Oakland in the Matt Chapman deal in 2022. Hoglund is currently ranked as the No. 6 pitcher and No. 14 overall prospect in the Athletics’ farm system. The injury will keep him out for the rest of the 2025 season, but he is expected to recover in time for 2026. His absence could open rotation opportunities for pitchers like Mitch Spence or Jacob Lopez.
