MediaTek Plans 2nm Chip Tape-Out at TSMC September 2025

MediaTek announced that it is set to tape out its first 2-nanometer (2nm) chip this September at TSMC’s foundry, marking a significant milestone in semiconductor technology. This next-generation chip promises a 15-25% performance boost and up to 30% power savings compared to its 3nm predecessors, with enhanced AI acceleration and machine learning capabilities designed to power future 6G networks and AI-driven devices. During the Computex 2025 event, CEO Rick Tsai highlighted MediaTek's extensive collaboration on nearly 240 AI models and over 100 IoT models, emphasizing the company's role in enabling AI integration across smartphones, IoT, automotive, and cloud applications. MediaTek’s advancements aim to strengthen its competitive position against rivals like Qualcomm, Apple, and Samsung by leveraging TSMC’s cutting-edge 2nm process technology, including the new Gate-All-Around transistor architecture.
