Greece Assists Portugal in Wildfire Response

Portugal is currently battling multiple wildfires, particularly in the northern regions such as Aveiro, prompting the country to request assistance from the European Union, including additional fire-fighting planes. As of Monday, 15 active blazes are reported, with one fire causing the destruction of houses near Albergaria-a-Velha, and a volunteer firefighter tragically died during operations. In response to the escalating situation, Greece has pledged to assist, and Spain and France are sending aircraft to aid firefighting efforts. The overall fire risk remains very high, exacerbated by unseasonably dry weather and strong winds, leading to the evacuation of residents and closure of roads. Authorities have mobilized over 2,300 firefighters nationwide, with a special red alert status in effect.
