Polio vaccination efforts face significant challenges in Gaza and Pakistan due to violence and logistical difficulties. In Gaza, a successful vaccination program has immunized 530,000 children with one dose of the oral polio vaccine, but the need for a second dose and the potential resumption of fighting pose risks to full immunization. In Pakistan, female polio workers are praised for their dedication, but violence against them persists; recent attacks in Bajaur and South Waziristan have resulted in deaths and injuries among polio workers and their police escorts. Despite these obstacles, both regions continue to strive toward eradicating polio, though the threat remains imminent due to incomplete immunization and ongoing violence.
