David Warner to Lead Sydney Thunder in BBL

David Warner has been appointed as captain of the Sydney Thunder for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season following Cricket Australia's decision to lift his lifetime leadership ban. The ban was initially imposed after the 2018 ball-tampering scandal during Australia's tour of South Africa. Warner expressed his excitement and pride at returning to a leadership role, stating his aim to mentor young talent within the team, such as Ollie Davies, Jason Sangha, and Sam Konstas. The appointment is seen as significant for the Thunder, with Warner's leadership expected to contribute to the development of future players. Warner replaces Chris Green as captain, having previously led the team in its inaugural match in 2011. The BBL season is set to begin on December 15, 2024.
