Philippines' Marcos Expands Socio-Economic Programs, Infrastructure Projects

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. delivered his fourth State of the Nation Address emphasizing the need to improve the lives of ordinary Filipinos despite positive economic indicators such as eased inflation and increased employment. He highlighted key socio-economic programs including free basic accommodation in Department of Health hospitals, expanded PhilHealth benefits, and initiatives to aid farmers and fisherfolk, along with efforts to connect one million households to electricity via solar home systems. Acknowledging public discontent reflected in recent midterm election results, Marcos pledged to roll out more social programs, create jobs, and attract investment while urging national unity amid political divisions, notably with Vice President Sara Duterte. Marcos also made significant infrastructure promises, including the completion of the South Luzon Expressway extension to reduce travel times, improvements in Mindanao transport, and the start of construction for the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge. His administration aims to address public frustration over key services by enhancing healthcare, transportation, energy, and water systems, underscoring that economic data alone is insufficient if Filipinos continue to struggle.
