The University of Pittsburgh has fired athletic director Heather Lyke, who had been in her role since 2017, citing the need for new leadership as college athletics rapidly changes. During her tenure, Lyke achieved significant accomplishments including Pitt’s first ACC football championship in 2021, three volleyball Final Four appearances, and two men’s soccer College Cup appearances. Despite her successes, Pitt's Chancellor Joan Gabel emphasized the necessity for a fresh vision. Lyke, who was named the 2023 NACDA AD of the Year, had been exploring other job opportunities and was a finalist for positions at Northwestern and Ohio State. Jennifer Tuscano will serve as interim athletic director while a national search for Lyke’s replacement is conducted.
