Former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond Repatriated
The body of former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond has been repatriated from North Macedonia after he died from a heart attack while attending a conference. The privately chartered flight, funded by businessman Sir Tom Hunter, landed at Aberdeen Airport where it was met by Salmond's family and Alba Party acting leader Kenny MacAskill. A North Macedonian military guard carried Salmond's coffin, draped in a Saltire, during a ceremony at Ohrid Airport before departure. His death has drawn tributes from across the political spectrum, with calls for privacy from his family as they prepare for a private funeral and public memorial service. Salmond, who played a significant role in Scottish politics, died at the age of 69. His passing has left a notable impact on the UK political landscape, prompting condolences from leaders including the Prime Minister.
