Doctor Ordered to Apologize to Nurse Letby

During the Thirlwall Inquiry, obstetrician Dr. Jim McCormack testified that he was instructed by hospital authorities to apologize to nurse Lucy Letby, who he allegedly referred to as a murderer in a meeting following the unexpected deaths of two triplets in June 2016. Dr. McCormack claimed he did not name Letby and was unaware of her identity until seven months later when the apology was requested. He recounted that a senior paediatrician expressed concerns about a nurse intentionally harming babies, prompting his shocked response questioning if a nurse was being labeled a murderer. The inquiry revealed that his remark was documented in an HR report related to Letby’s grievance over her reassignment from the neonatal unit. Dr. McCormack emphasized that he was taken aback by the serious implications of the discussion and had no knowledge of any concerns regarding Letby at the time of the meeting.
