Cardinals Enhance Bullpen with Phil Maton Signing
Phil Maton has signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Cardinals and is expected to be ready for the season opener after training in Arizona. Previously with the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Mets, Maton recorded a 3.66 ERA across 71 appearances last season, and he was notably strong with a 2.52 ERA while playing for the Mets. The Cardinals' bullpen needed reinforcement after losing Andrew Kittredge to free agency. Maton, who has also played for the Padres, Guardians, and Astros in his career, will fill a setup role for the Cardinals. To accommodate Maton on the roster, left-handed pitcher Bailey Horn was designated for assignment. The Cardinals are actively addressing their bullpen needs as they prepare for the season's start.
