The Beatles Named Ultimate British Group

The Beatles have been crowned the ultimate British group by BBC Radio 2 listeners in a recent poll, surpassing Queen, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Fleetwood Mac. The voting, which attracted hundreds of thousands of votes, was part of the celebration for National Album Day on October 19, with listeners selecting their top five favorite bands from a shortlist of 54 acts spanning decades. The selection panel, chaired by Jeff Smith, included well-known Radio 2 presenters who curated the list based on musical success and popularity. The Beatles, formed in 1960, are recognized as the best-selling musical act of all time, having achieved remarkable success with numerous UK number one singles and albums. Additional notable groups in the top 30 include The Who, Spice Girls, and Led Zeppelin, showcasing the rich history of British music. The results will be aired live on Radio 2 as part of a special programming event dedicated to Great British Groups.
