Sony Unveils New RGB LED Display Technology

Sony has unveiled a new display technology, the New RGB LED, which promises to rival OLED panels in color accuracy and brightness. This system independently controls red, green, and blue LEDs, achieving 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space and 90% of the ITU-R BT.2020 standard, while offering peak brightness levels over 4,000 cd/m². Unlike traditional backlighting, this technology avoids common OLED issues like 'black crush' and improves color gradation and detail, particularly in darker scenes. Sony's advanced backlight control enhances these displays by minimizing color shifting and brightness variation, ensuring consistent picture quality even from different angles. The company plans to integrate this technology into consumer TVs and professional displays by 2026, with mass production expected to begin in 2025.
