Police Probe Nottingham NHS Trust for Manslaughter
Nottinghamshire Police have launched a corporate manslaughter investigation into Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust after deaths and serious injuries linked to its maternity services at Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital. The investigation, called Operation Perth, follows the referral of over 200 cases by independent midwife Donna Ockenden, who is leading a review of around 2,500 cases in the largest maternity care inquiry in NHS history. Police are determining whether gross negligence by the trust's senior management led to these deaths and injuries, with corporate manslaughter charges possible if systemic failings are proven. The probe focuses on organizational responsibility rather than pursuing individual accountability. Affected parents, including Dr Jack and Sarah Hawkins, have welcomed the investigation but continue to call for individual justice. Police have acknowledged the investigation's scale and complexity and have stated it will take significant time to complete.
