Kelce Leaves, Returns as Chiefs Lose 28-21
The Kansas City Chiefs lost 28-21 to the Buffalo Bills in Week 9, dropping Kansas City to 5-4 and renewing concerns about the rivalry’s physicality and playoff implications. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce took a brutal hit from Bills safety Cole Bishop late in the first half, left for evaluation but cleared concussion protocol and returned to play, and was later seen making gestures toward Bills fans; he remains the team’s top receiving threat and recently set a franchise touchdown mark. The same sequence included an errant Patrick Mahomes pass that ricocheted off the turf and struck a cameraman, who was later reported to be OK. In another Week 9 game, the Arizona Cardinals snapped a five-game skid with a 27-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys as tight end Trey McBride — fresh off a four-year, $76 million extension that made him the highest-paid tight end — caught a touchdown, gained 55 yards, and became only the third tight end with at least five catches in 10 straight games. Kelce’s on-field gestures and pregame fashion continued to draw attention. Former Chiefs player Art Still is using a medical diagnosis to raise awareness and fundraise for a rare genetic disease through his nonprofit.
