Norway Approaches 100% Electric Car Sales by 2025

Norway is on track to become the first country to eliminate petrol and diesel cars from new sales by 2025, with nearly 89% of new car sales in 2024 being battery-powered vehicles. Tesla leads the market, followed by Volkswagen and Toyota, while Chinese EV brands have gained a 10% share. Despite initial forecasts predicting a slump in car sales, over 123,000 electric vehicles were sold in 2024, with Tesla's Model Y dominating the market. The Norwegian government's strategy includes high taxes on fossil fuel cars, alongside incentives for EVs, supported by a lack of local automotive industry lobbying.
