Michigan Woman Dies In Monroe County Rear-End Crash

Jessica E. Benner, 30, of Carleton, Michigan, died in a rear-end collision on North Telegraph Road near Carleton Rockwood Road in Ash Township. Benner's gray 2012 Ford Escape struck the back of a stopped red flat-bed truck driven by 65-year-old Craig S. Chinavare, who was attempting to turn into a private driveway with his brake lights and left turn signal activated. Following the impact, Benner's vehicle spun and left the roadway, coming to rest on the shoulder, and her airbags deployed. Benner was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, while Chinavare was wearing his seatbelt and was uninjured. Authorities have ruled out alcohol and speed as factors in the accident, which remains under investigation.
