Red Sox Place Alex Bregman on IL, Promote Prospect Marcelo Mayer

The Boston Red Sox have placed third baseman Alex Bregman on the 10-day injured list due to a significant right quad strain, similar to an injury he suffered in 2021, which could sideline him until late July. Bregman injured his quad while running to first base in a game against Baltimore and underwent an MRI that confirmed the severity of the strain. To fill his roster spot, the Red Sox promoted top infield prospect Marcelo Mayer from Triple-A Worcester, who is set to make his major league debut. Mayer, a highly regarded prospect and former No. 4 overall draft pick, is expected to provide much-needed depth to Boston's infield, which has been affected by injuries to Bregman and first baseman Triston Casas, who was moved to the 60-day injured list after season-ending knee surgery.
