Drug Price Cuts Save Patients ₹3,788 Crore Annually, Reported by Government

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has implemented price reductions under the National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM) 2022, leading to an average decrease of 17% in drug prices, which is projected to save patients approximately ₹3,788 crore annually. The NPPA has established ceiling prices for 928 scheduled formulations and fixed retail prices for over 3,200 new drugs, ensuring that manufacturers adhere to these limits. Additionally, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) initiative provides quality medicines at 50-80% lower prices at Jan Aushadhi Kendras, while the AMRIT initiative offers significant discounts on essential medicines and surgical items.
