Cyprus has celebrated the return of a significant collection of ancient artifacts looted by Turkish art dealer Aydin Dikmen in the aftermath of the 1974 invasion. The artifacts, which include Chalcolithic Period jewelry and Bronze Age idols, were seized in Germany in 1997 and repatriated after prolonged legal battles. This marks the end of a 27-year campaign to recover the nation's cultural heritage. High-ranking officials attended a ceremony at the Cyprus Museum to unveil the 60 newly returned items. Similarly, Turkey has intensified efforts to repatriate historical artifacts, successfully recovering over 12,000 items since 2002, including a bronze emperor statue and a marble torso intercepted during commercial transactions. These efforts highlight a growing global trend towards the repatriation of cultural artifacts of dubious provenance.
