Suárez on IL, Walker Joins Phillies Rotation
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Ranger Suárez will start the 2025 season on the injured list due to lower back soreness, an issue that has plagued him previously. Phillies President Dave Dombrowski indicated that Suárez might return in a few weeks, while Taijuan Walker will temporarily fill his spot in the rotation. Walker, who struggled last season, is seen as having a good chance to perform well based on his spring training form. Suárez's injury history includes similar back issues that affected his performance in the latter half of 2024, despite a strong start to that season. Concurrently, the Phillies claimed Carlos Hernández off waivers from the Kansas City Royals to bolster their bullpen, as they prepare for the season opener against the Washington Nationals. Hernández has shown potential but has struggled with consistency in the majors, which contributed to his departure from Kansas City.
