Wales Plans Historic Ban on Greyhound Racing

Wales is poised to become the first nation in the UK to ban greyhound racing, as announced by Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies on February 18. The decision follows substantial public support, with over 35,000 signatures on a petition and nearly two-thirds of respondents favoring a ban in a government consultation. Advocates for the ban, including the Cut the Chase coalition, which comprises several animal welfare organizations, have praised the move as a significant step for animal welfare. However, the Betting and Gaming Council has expressed disappointment, arguing that the ban is driven by campaigners rather than evidence of cruelty.
