The attack occurred on June 7 in Copenhagen, where the man punched Frederiksen's right shoulder, causing her to suffer a mild whiplash injury. During the trial, he claimed memory lapses due to alcohol and a bad day, but accepted the court's decision. The assault, which took place days before the European Parliament elections, was condemned internationally amidst rising violence against politicians in Europe. The man, who has been in pre-trial custody since the incident, faces additional charges including sexual harassment and fraud. Prosecutor Anders Larsson characterized his behavior as unacceptable for societal norms.
