Events Marking Black History Month Announced

Various organizations across the U.S. are gearing up for Black History Month in February 2025, offering a rich array of events aimed at celebrating African American culture and contributions. The Bessie Smith Cultural Center in Chattanooga will kick off the month with an art contest exhibit and community day on February 1, featuring events such as a film screening about the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion and discussions on black excellence in sports. Meanwhile, the Mayo Performing Arts Center will showcase 'Black Joy,' an exhibition highlighting the works of contemporary black artists, alongside performances celebrating hip hop and gospel music. In Grande Prairie, an opening ceremony will feature community discussions and a documentary screening, culminating in a gala event on March 1. Piedmont Arts will host a talk by poet TJ Anderson III and an African American Read-in, a nationwide effort to promote literacy through African American literature.
