Giant Eagle, Cost Plus Drugs Expand Prescription Discounts

Giant Eagle has partnered with Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drug Company to provide customers with discounted prescription medications across its five-state footprint, marking Cost Plus Drugs’ first major expansion into the Pittsburgh region. The partnership allows Giant Eagle pharmacies to accept the Team Cuban Card, offering transparent pricing on generic medications through direct manufacturer negotiations and bypassing pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). This expansion comes as Giant Eagle gains new customers after Rite Aid closures. Customers can use an online tool to locate participating pharmacies and access straightforward cost-plus-fee pricing. Experts highlight that, while the initiative targets PBMs, branded drugs and other factors still contribute to high prescription costs in the U.S. The collaboration is part of a wider trend, with other supermarket chains like Kroger and Albertsons also joining with Cost Plus Drugs to improve prescription affordability.
