Rolling Meadows Sergeant Charged in Elgin Road Rage
Carlos Saez, a 19-year veteran sergeant of the Rolling Meadows Police Department, was arrested and placed on unpaid administrative leave after a road rage incident on April 23 in the 1100 block of Dundee Avenue in Elgin. The incident began as a traffic dispute with another individual and escalated into a physical altercation during which Saez discharged his firearm. Saez faces felony charges including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery in a public way, and reckless discharge of a firearm. One person was treated for a minor injury unrelated to the gunfire. Both the Elgin Police Department and Rolling Meadows Police Department are conducting separate criminal and internal investigations. Saez, recognized for his service in community and specialized roles, has been released under pretrial conditions requiring the surrender of all firearms.
